Hello, I'm looking for a place to buy pre-built robots. I'm trying to teach VERY basic robotics in Tunisia. I will be purchasing from overseas, so a well-known company is preferred, even if it is more expensive. I would be using PIC micro controllers (probably 16f877) and would want to help students drive a motor, display information on LCD and use some basic sensors. Looking for a simple and well built robot base. Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

This one:

has always looked good as a starter robot for a reasonable price.
It has everything needed to do many tasks once programmed.

Hi,
Why not start with a class building the actual platforms and perhaps another class to develop the electronics?
If not your students, perhaps another class or school?
If the school has got just the basics within powertools and machinery, it should be a short matter to produce a series of platforms where you determine the quality. That would really cut the price down.
