Hello everyone, I've become rather interested in AR (augmented reality) so that I can streamline my day to day errands. What I am looking to achieve as an ultimate goal is being able to wear a helmet that will display a hud based on what I am looking at and using AR to 3d the object out and display information for me. I was going to run this through a usb port that would be connected to an external hd with a copy of my current OS running.
I've been researching for two days now and I am not coming up with too much information but I am aware that forums can be a modicum of knowledge. If anyone has heard of any tech that could enable this I would very much appreciate some info.
Also, I have started on my $50 dollar robot and so far it is one of the coolest things I have ever done. Thanks again

Hi Harold,
Maybe this site could help you a bit http://www.tinmith.net/ (http://www.tinmith.net/)

All you'd really need, besides someting to run the software is a web cam and something like this: http://www.itvgoggles.com (http://www.itvgoggles.com)
Also try looking at ARToolKit for building your augmented reality programs.
Someone made this one with ARToolKit
Mini-tanks came out in sequence from a hole in my room wall (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oiqIPXnKkKo#)

Arix - Wow, that is a great site. Thank you very much, there is tons of research there for my AR projects.
Hawaii - Thank you for the tip, I will look for a toolkit and that mini-tank brigade is pretty sweet looking.
