Title: Hey guys.
Post by: propertyco on July 26, 2010, 08:44:18 PM
Seeing as i couldn't find an "Introduction" forum i figured I'd post here

Just wanted to say i'm finding this site quite useful when it comes to learning.
I'll tell you a little about my self.
I'm a 17 year old male from michigan, I'm fluent in Visual Basic and PHP, and know enough C++ to read the code.

I don't have much when it comes to money, but i have all the resources as my father's a amateur radio enthusiast as well as i also have my license.

Some of my works include:
http://humanidiocy.com (http://humanidiocy.com)
http://autotwitterbot.com (http://autotwitterbot.com)
http://txtmsgsender.com (http://txtmsgsender.com)
http://propertycontrol.org (http://propertycontrol.org)

I'm not a website designer, my friend Richard does all my layout work.
And various other programs/sites that have died.

Haven't done any projects when it comes to microcontrollers as i'm still researching for a cheap microcontroller i can get, but boy when i do, you guys will be the first to find out.

Thanks :P

figured i'd update and show what i'm thinking of getting for a controller...

Welcome to the forum! I've thought about getting my amateur radio license but I never ended up doing it.

The Arduino is a pretty good board to start with. The only thing I found frustrating is that servos and sensors don't plug straight into the board. If you haven't already ordered you can check out the Roboduino (http://store.curiousinventor.com/roboduino.html). Its an Arduino that you can plug servos straight into. If you have already ordered, the arduino will work... just a little more work attacking servos and sensors.

Happy building!

I had JUST ordered it, but i also don't have the extra $15 to spend on it :P
Thanks for the input, and hurry up and get your license, it's only $25 for the test and 35 questions!

No problem, Arduino was my first microcontroller too.

Haha yeah, but you still have the cost of gear. I guess it was just one of my ambitions that died out.

Ok, I can't think of too much right now but when I think of something all give you a heads up.

Any idea what your first bot is going to do?

Gonna make a do not disturb box, then learn about reading/writing via serial to computer, that way I can make programs that interact with my future bots

Have to say, that text message sender is badass.  Can you reply to it and get messages online?  Ive sent messages from it to my phone, but cant send them back.
