For those that are unaware, there is a huge shortage on AVRs in the market right now. It's been months since I have seen any TQFP 328s in stock in any of the major websites, and buying from Ebay is asking for clones.
Recently I noticed SparkFun (http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/product_info.php?products_id=9261) had some (100) in stock, and I bought a few for myself. 6 hours later, I checked back and 100 went down to 8, so I bought the rest, in an attempt to reserve them for our community.
If anyone is working on a project and needs an TQFP 328, let me know. I didn't do this to make a profit, and will only charge you at my cost plus shipping.

Oooow I'd love one!
For my fish that is, I only got 168 in dip package, and there hard to fit in tight places, so i'd love to buy a 328 in TQFP.
Searching my foreign money collection,
a dime, a quarter, $10, $1 x2.
What would you like for two?
Shipping to Western Australia?

Email your mailing address to [email protected] and we'll work out the details.
That goes to anyone else interested as well.

if it is a 32 pin i am interested. i have a feeling i have bricked the one on my Romeo reloading the bootloader and like you said they are hard to find. the place i generally get my electronics from have stopped stocking them as they are so hard to source.
give me an email as for how much you want, i assume you will be able to ship with the same method as with the board.
Brilliant idea keeping them for Sor. like you said they are out of stock.
thanks very much

Hey, if you bricked your board, why don't you try with avr mk2
It's hard to brick it only with uploading a bootloader...
Bricking involves fuse settings being changed... It's usually harder to de-solder and re-solder
than trying the above...
Someone maybe in need of that 328 for developing or want it for a contest, which, pardon me, may be more important...
So give a try some alternatives first! (thinking that you haven't tried enough)
Madsci, nice thought man! It feels "community" !!!

It is the 32 pin
Shipping from SFE was $9.43 or $1.17 per AVR, so cost to me is $5.42 a piece. So it will be $5.42 plus shipping to you.
I'm still waiting to get them from SFE to see how they are packaged, but assuming they can easily and safely go into a regular envelope and not be too thick, it's only a few bucks to ship internationally.
Joker, you are covered for shipping; assuming the above sentence holds true. When i did the calculation for the board online, the post office website told me it was going to be $4 something. But when my girlfriend went and shipped them they only charged her $2 something. I think one of the young guys there likes her a little too much. :-\ She does a lot of shipping for stuff she sells on Ebay.
Like i said, everybody interested shoot me an email [email protected], as I'm going to use first come, first serve via email to determine who gets the 8.
And I do take Paypal.
-
Take an e-cookie Madsci, you take PayPal!
$5.42+ it sould cost you $2-3 to post as an envelope...
I'm pretty good at packing things, if i do say so my self...
Remember the regulations here in Australia, nothing wider than 2cm can be a letter.
A good way of packing small things is to sandwich them in packing foam, works for me...
-
Well Tricky, i have spent hours on attempting to get my Romeo working again. i have project ideas that the romeo will be perfect for but unfortunately it doesn't work. there is a possibility that i have changed the fuses by accident due to the fact that i have tried to reprogram the boot loader.
Madsci just let me know about the costs, i am happy with whatever price you name.
-
No don't send me one, save them for people how really need them,
my 168's will do, and I'd feel guilty if I fried a 328 that others really need...
And my soldering skills are shocking...
-
You sure? $6-8 for an 328 and only one (joker) has been spoken for so far.
First batch of 4 came in today.
-
why is there a shortage? are they going on end of life or are they just exceeding what atmel can supply?
-
Just exceeding supply. Or sparkfun. When mouser got in 4000 of them, I emailed sparkfun (I really wanted a 328 razor). A day later they said thanks and the 328s were out of stock - looks like they bought em all :o

This explains it well (http://uk.reuters.com/article/idUKLNE64N01X20100524)
The same thing effecting those chip companies effect Atmel.
-
That backs up the point that almost everything if not everything is influenced by economics.
@ madsci, i will sort out the transaction tomorrow, $8.
cheers

Ok I might get one, let me talk to my parents about PayPal...
-
paypal is the best option for especially younger people, they take care of the transaction and it is easy to set up to almost any bank. no need for a credit card or pin number. look on their site and it has all the details.
Paypal is how i do all of my transactions for robotics gear. also really easy to use.
-
My parents already have a PayPal account, but I'm not allowed to use it :'(
It's not like I'm going to spend all the money ;)
-
just explain it your parents and i am sure they will be more than happy to deposite the money to madsci.
it take al of 1 or 2 minutes to make the transaction, really quick.
-
Count me in, but i can't pay until next week...
How nuch will it be?
And remember to PM me your payment details
