Hey,

For small motors up to about 1 Amp, an LM293D will suffice. It's a small 16 pin DIP IC with 2 full H-Bridges onboard. I don't know exactly how much it is but it definitely won't be higher then the region of a few pounds or dollars.

As for building one, all you need are some transistors or MOSFETS, so the price will be quite low. You will probably also be able to make a higher current H-Bridge for the same amount of money spent on a pre-made one.

So really you have to consider the current of your motors and whether you wish to build your own rather than buy one.

Hi,

[...] transistors or MOSFETS, [...]
MOSFET = Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor.

Thanks for that Soeren :D

I did already know, but most people for some reason deal with them differently, even though they are basically the same.

Thanks anyway for pointing that out :D

Like hypernerd said the lm293d is a very good chip. I got 5 of them for under $10 making them very inexpensive.

hai,

the cost of the h bridge depends upon your power ratings, the best one is ul293d if you are beginner in electronics it consists of 2 h bridges in it.if you had better knowledge in it then you can go ahead with discrete components.

The SN754410NE is better than the l293d, can handle 1 amp continuous, and 2 amp peak for 5 miliseconds.
