Title: Help with Webbot Project Designer
Post by: thornsb1 on October 14, 2010, 11:13:28 AM
I cannot get the Project Designer to open. I suspect that there is a problem with Java. I have reinstalled everything but it still wont open. Does anyone have suggestions? I am running Windows 7 64-Bit.

What are the symptoms?

I also have Win 7 64bit, and i get an error 25-50% of the time. I just run the installer again (here) (http://webbot.org.uk/iPoint/ipoint?Link=4&LinkType=External), and it then opens fine.

Thx. I tried the link you posted but it does the same thing. A terminal screen opens only for a moment and then disappears. I never had this problem before. I just dont get it. Could it be Java? I never see the Oracle logo when opening the file. Thx again for the help!

In the current version 1.27 I have dropped the Webbot splash screen as it has caused problems with some firewalls.

What you could try (I'm on XP so not sure if Windows 7 still has this stuff) is go in to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, and un-install Project Designer.

Then reload it from the link at http://webbot.org.uk (http://webbot.org.uk)

It could also be that the 'jnlp' file extension is associated with another application. In which case try:-
right click on the icon, advanced, and open with, then find the javaws.exe and say open with .
javaws.exe is normally in Program Files/Java/Version/bin

--EDIT--
You could also try pointing a browser to http://webbot.org.uk/webbotlib/ProjectDesigner.jnlp (http://webbot.org.uk/webbotlib/ProjectDesigner.jnlp)

It worked Webbot, thanks! I opened the file with javaws.exe and it came right up. Problem resolved. By the way, I just began to learn programming about 6 weeks ago. Using Webbot Project Designer, I just finished programming my first robot. The project designer generated the basic initialization and I just modified it to suit my purpose. Thank you so much. Soon I will post videos of my robot in competition with the robots of the other groups in my class. The Axon 2 is a really neat microprocessor and I am encouraging the sponsor of the Engineering Club to get Axon 2 micros and install Webbot P.D. on our computers for future projects. Again, thanks for the help!
