I can maybe get the Weller WS81 for around 189USD, is this a good deal? Furthermore is it problematic that it's analog instead of digital?
Best regards

Hi,
I can maybe get the Weller WS81 for around 189USD, is this a good deal?
It sure seems like it.
Furthermore is it problematic that it's analog instead of digital?
Not if you want it for its intended purpose - soldering.
A digital readout doesn't improve your soldering in any way, and you will soon get a feeling for setting the temperature without the display.
If you get this, you should have a tool that will last you decades.
Remember to get tips of different diameters - narrow tips for fine soldering and a large one for when you need the heat transfer, like soldering large connectors, cables or metal sheets.
Keeping your tips tinned and in good shape is important for ensuring their longevity.

Thank you for your answer. It sure looks like a nice soldering station, I'm gonna buy it :)

Btw I am buying it locally from a guy at hol.dk for 1000DKR :-)

That IS a good price if it's new.
If used, you might wanna shop around a bit - there's a lot of ham operators near you and you could take a look at brugtgrej.dk (and perhaps dba.dk) as well.

Ok, it is new. I am just a litte confused on how it compares to WES51 (http://www.amazon.com/Weller-WES51-Analog-Soldering-Station/dp/B000BRC2XU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=hi&qid=1287334310&sr=1-1) and WES51 (http://www.amazon.com/Weller-WESD51-Digital-Soldering-Station/dp/B000ARU9PO). Is the WS-81 better quality? Also I don't think WS-81 has ESD-protection, but WES51 and WESD51 does.

What do you think?

I have the Weller WESD51 and I love it.
Just my opinion.
