Title: my bluesmirf isn't working
Post by: enekux on January 13, 2011, 04:06:04 AM
Hi to everyone!

I received the "Bluetooth Modem - BlueSMiRF RP-SMA" some days ago and I am having some problems with it...

I can establish a connection only in "command mode" but not in "data mode". I am getting an "ERR-connected" error message every time I try to connect to it in "data mode". So still I haven't seen the green LED on yet, always is off. It is possible that the module is broken?

Some clarifications:

Like the admin:
- I tried multiple computers
- tried a different bluetooth PC dongle
- tried resetting my PC
- using Windows 7
- this is the most recent bluesmirf version
- tried different wiring, different 5V regulators. 3.3V

1. The pins CTS/RTS on the module are shorted.
2. I am using LYNX term to connect to the module.
3. When I power up the BlueSMiRF the red LED blinks fast for 60 seconds. The green LED is off.
4. If I establish a connection between the first 60 seconds and I enter the command $$$ I access to the module in "command mode" so I can configure it. The red LED blinks very fast. The green LED still is off.
5. If I try to connect when the red LED blinks slower the red LED turns off and nothing else happens. The green LED continues off.
6. Or if in "command mode" I try to connect to the module in "data mode" I get "ERR-connected" error message.

Any ideas?? Suggestions?? I think I will contact the distributor and say that the module was not ok when shipped...

why? just let them float . . .

according to google, that means you've sent an improper command while in command mode . . .

Well... I shortened them in a desperate action ;)

uhm... I don't thing this is the real problem cause the commands are introduced right (95% sure), I explain:

When you are in "command mode" you have some ways to connect to the remote address using for example some of the next commands:

ACTION COMMANDS
C - Connect immediate to stored remote address.
C,<address> - Connect to address.
CF<address> - Connect Fast mode to address.
CFR - Connect Fast mode to stored remote address.
CT<address>,<timer> - Connect, required address, optional disconnect timer in ΒΌ seconds.
F,1 - Enter Fast data mode, end configuration immediate.

so for example if I introduce: C,<mac_address_of_my_usb_dongle>

I receive this "ERR-connected" message...

In other hand, when I want just to connect in "data mode" to the module, the connection established then the red LED turns off, but no green LED is activated and the data transmission does not work...

I think is broken...

You don't need to use the command mode, ever, unless you plan to change configurations.

On the bluesmirf, don't short CTS and RTS.

Remove whatever you have connected to TX and RX, then short TX and RX. This is called a 'loop back test'. Now connect using hyperterminal (or whatever), and you should see a solid LED color. Type something, and it should be echoed back.
