Does the Atmel AVRISP mkII come with the 10 pin adaption or do i need to buy that separately
-
You only need 10 pins if you have an old dongle. The newer ones (past 3 years at least) are all 6 pins.
Here is a link that explains it.

That is all fine and dandy but i already soldered in the 10 pin that is why i was wondering?
Thanks

The dongle's plug will only have six holes in it. You'll have to re-solder it for the six-pin configuration. You can't just only plug it into the six pins on the right or left. I hope this makes sense.

Sure he can - he simply needs to wire only the top six pins and put the connector in correctly, and ignore the other pins.

Thanks for the tips guys but out of the box the Atmel AVRISP mkII comes with a six pin how could i put a 10 pin on it do i have to buy that part separately.

Forget 10 pins.
Follow the directions in this thread: http://www.societyofrobots.com/robotforum/index.php?topic=1045.0 (http://www.societyofrobots.com/robotforum/index.php?topic=1045.0)
You will only need six pins.

He can plug into the six on the right or left AFTER he rewires it, but he must rewire it by following the directions that I linked.
I recommend only having six pins on the header, so he won't be confused.

I'm not aware of a 10-pin adapter. Please post a link to that.

I think what people are trying to tell you is -
The 10 pin is an old connection not used anymore by that programmer.
They all have 6 pin now.
So either buy some other programmer that will do what you want which is 10 pin, or rewire it. Changing the wires to fit for the six pin is the better option.
Do you understand?
