Domain squatters snatched the site for a while today. I hate those guys.
-
Is it working for you now? (madsci said you called him)
I think it was Emum (the registrar) which f'ed up the DNS for a few hours, as the SoR domain was auto-updated today, and then that mistake propagated around the DNS server world . . .
I contacted my host to figure out what happened.
-
Yep, it started working again nicely at a bit before 1200est today. I didn't have the time to do any research myself to look into what happened but I just know one of those domain squatters took over for approximately an hour from my viewpoint (NMCI seat).
-
Yea, I didn't check until 12:30 EST, and by that time it was fine (at least for me).
Other people on the SoR Facebook page are still reporting issues, as well as a friend of mine in Canadia.
-
My NMCI seat is still resolving the squatter page, and so is my phone.
The only other URL in the squatting page source is nuseek.com. If you google the url, you get alot of results about domain hijacking. :-\ :-\
-
And.....
Right after I posted that using the other Navy network, it's DNS got refreshed and the URL resolved to the squatting page.
I had to add a hard entry into my hosts file to be able to get back on. I suggest others do the same. IP address is 174.120.175.51
Interesting read here:

Seems to be a common occurrence.

It turns out my host f'ed up the domain name renewal. It's currently being resolved.
-
It works!
-
Our host 'failed at life'. Or, at least failed to renew the SoR domain name, and failed to inform me that it expired. It took 6 hours of nagging, but they finally renewed the domain.
;D :-X

I think I just got back access to it in the last 2 hours. Glad to know it wasn't super serious (aka Russian mafia extortion for return of website...).

Don't worry, I keep multiple updated backups of everything, including the forum. It's a lot of work, but WWW is really the Wild Wild West in terms of crime . . .

Last night I couldn't get on the forum (from Toronto), since 7PM when I first tried to last time I tried around 11PM. This morning all works well. Thanks for fixing the issue.
