Title: Which bluetooth?
Post by: mlandergan on June 18, 2011, 10:31:23 AM
So I am planning on going wireless with my robots and I was wondering which one I should buy. I was looking at sparkfun and I found many blutooth. What qualities should I look for are some better than others? Also I intend to use the bluetooth for only about 100-150 ft and I am mostly going to use it for the arduino. This is what I found so far:

Thanks in advance

I'd try going into the SparkFun forum and search for threads on each of these Bluetooth units.
That should give you a good idea to the Pros and Cons of each.

For bluetooth, I would go with class 1 devices.

You might also consider using Xbees (the 1mW ones will be fine), especially if you need to do two-way communication.  If you're just sending signals from a laptop with bluetooth, you would just need one bluetooth serial adapter, but to do two way, you would need two.  The xbee solution is about $90 for two-way communication, compared to $120-140 for two class 1 bluetooth adapters...

If you give us more info about what you're going to do with the wireless connection, we can better point you in the right direction :)

If you want high range, you don't want a device with a trace antenna (like the ones in your links).

This is what I use:
