A while back, and with no clue whatsoever, I decided to make my first robot. It still isn't finished because real life got in the way, but I did make a decision part way through to hack a radio controlled car to my purposes rather than build my own robot base. It's cheap, it's fast, and it looks cool. Thus, in case anyone is interested in doing the same thing, I thought I'd post the make of car, the points on the circuit board you have to poke to make it go, and a couple of pictures. It should be enough for someone else to pick up the same model and do the same thing without going through a week of fiddling with volt meters.

Quick picture of it (minus actual controller board) here:

Of course, there is a fairly high probability that I will fry this things circuits before I finish, but since it cost less than the motor driver I'd be likely to fry instead I'll take my chances. I accept no responsibility for damage caused by people drilling holes in RC cars and soldering bits onto the circuit boards :p
My thanks to the #robotics guys and gals on IRC, and especially Rue, who helped me with some basic concepts (some VERY basic concepts).

hey, thanks for posting this. I think that this is going to really help me out. It'd be great if you post the video too :)
