When i start up my robot the microcontroler get vry hot and so is the battery. :'(
HHHHEEEELLLLPPPP!!!!

you connected it wrong and you fried the microcontroller so now you are making a short circuit
It happens me now and then when I'm not careful and working in a breadboard :P

How does the microcontroler be connected, Side, fron back etc. PLs Answer. :'(

it depends on what microcontroller you are using
VDD = 5v (it depends but 5v is the most common)
and VSS= GND

I am using the Atmega8 or the one in the $50 dollar robot.

VCC should be pin 7 and GND pin 22
look at http://www.atmel.com/dyn/resources/prod_documents/2486S.pdf to see how pins are arranged
if you connected it backwards I think you fried the atmega.
You should also connect pin 20 to VCC and pin 8 to GND

I connected a PIC backwards once and it still seemed to work afterword

Check all the connections..they must be coorect..check with the data sheet..
Use proper grounding..
Use a additional heat sink if possible..

NO! no heatsink is necessary, in fact any heat at all is not a good sign for a MCU, maybe you fried it maybe you didn't but heat in general is a bad sign for MCU's (there might be 1 or two exceptions but for the Atmega8... heat is bad)

I took everything out and now i am going to do it in a breadboard that i bought that doesn't allow short circuits. Can somebody pls send me some instructions on hoe to use a breadboard and i also bought a Sharp IR sensor that reches from a minimum of 8" to a maximum of 150". Is that right or i am wrong, should the automatic calibration program still work.

Hey i am doing the $50 dollar robot I have just finish again the circuitry. I have a question on the Atmega8. Is it normal to get a little bit warm.

if it's working then it's ok.
But getting warm means high current. If you have outputs driving leds or other devices make sure they have appropiate resistors or you will force the microcontroller to give higher current than it's needed.

Congratulations on getting it to work . . . but it is NOT ok for it to be warm. Something is plugged in wrong, and/or wires are shorting somewhere. Get out a multimeter and do resistance checks on everything after you double checked the wiring.

OK I check everything i plug it in and it didnot got warm. I think it was body heat. Although you didnot answer me the question on the sharp IR sensor. PLS ANSWER.
