Title: L293d vs motor drive shield?
Post by: cyb3rman on January 21, 2013, 05:48:07 PM
Hello!
I want to make a line follower robot, based on differential drive. What should I buy, this (http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-1-Pcs-x-L293D-L293-Push-Pull-Four-Channel-Motor-Driver-IC-/200811913759?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2ec152a21f) or this (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Motor-Drive-Shield-Expansion-Board-L293D-For-Arduino-Duemilanove-Mega-UNO-/200727260111?pt=UK_Computing_Other_Computing_Networking&hash=item2ebc46ebcf)?

Right now I'm just buying the pieces I need, they take up to a month to ship.

Thanks a lot!

Which motors are you going to use? The motor specs will determine which motor driver chip can be used.
If you buy just the L293D chip can you then build the circuits for this chip?

The other is a board for an Ardriuo. Are you going to buy one?

Yes, I bought an Arduino Uno R3 board. I took the motors from a cassette, so they work on 9V.
That's what I was wondering.. as a beginner, is it easy to build the H-bridge for the L293d, or should I just buy the shield? The price difference is only ~2$
