Title: Sharp Distance sensor for flame detection

Since a sharp distance sensor uses IR, can it also made to detect the wave length of fires reliably?

No. The Sharp distance sensor is not a passive IR sensor. It Sends and bright IR pulse which it then detects to output a distance.
