i want to develope a vision based mobile robot that could identify an object, move towards it, pick it up and place it at some other position.
i was only able to make the base with proper geer and steering arangements. but i dont know what sensors to use for finding the range or distance of any object, and better camera to use for this prpose. could u assist me in this please.

Can you tell us more about what you have and your current robot setup?
What type of object? What does it look like?

give us some details on each aspect, like how would you like your bot identify the object?(color, shape, etc) ..
