i would like to buy a microcontroller and programer with all it's conections ( eg. plugs for sharp IR ) from the $50 robot it should be compatible with a sharp ir sensor and photocell.

Maybe it would be a good idea to pose a question to? I assume your intention is to ask where to buy one, or which one...
The arduino as always a good choice, but there are loads of these out there.
Find a site you want to order from ( http://www.societyofrobots.com/robot_parts_list.shtml or google ) and see what they have.
Or find a product you want and then the site...

Hey Im new to all this and I was wondering where I could buy the ICSP header rpogrammer thing he uses for the 50$ robot!? much appreciated and thanks to anyone who can give me alittle info ..... cuz im stupid!!!!!
