I found an old page on hackaday that has a hack to turn an optical mouse into a scanner, but the host link is dead now and I haven't been able to find a backup site. Anyone familiar with what must be done to salvage the sensor and grab input from it, or any idea what sort of resolution the sensors provide?
Thanks!

Do a search on the Avago ADNS-2610. You'll find source code for using it as a scanner. It's actually a very interesting chip.
