Title: Hotglue vs. Heat Shrink
Post by: airman00 on December 10, 2007, 07:55:54 PM: I kinda ran out of heat shrink today , so I just hot glued over the solder joints.

Is that good, or will some unforeseen problem occur?

If its just like heatshrink, should I use it all the time ( its much quicker to do)

Post by: Admin on December 10, 2007, 08:12:22 PM: hot glue is much hotter than heat shrink . . . there is the possible risk the intense heat could damage your electronics . . . plus, heatshrink just looks cooler ;D

Yea, but wouldn't soldering in the first place have the same heating side effect as hotglue?

Post by: Steve Joblin on December 11, 2007, 07:37:29 AM: I'm not quite sure on this, so it is more conjecture than fact, but I think the reason why they use heat shrink has to do with it's combustability. Heat shrink will not burn, it will just melt. I don't know what the characteristics are of hot glue, plus I don't know if there are any harmful fumes released when exposed to high temperatures.

Post by: Trumpkin on December 11, 2007, 12:05:10 PM: I'm guessing since hot glue melts by high temperatures in the first place it will not release harmful fumes ;). I don't think hot glue burns, I have seen it used in toys electronics.
