ok help what is this thingy ??? it was in a motion detector (store bought) and its a small barrel like a big resistor and had some werid fluffy copper coloured stuff in the middle.... and with pic chips do u need the stand and the programmer for them??
-
maybe a picture of this thing would help us to help you :)
-
yes please post a picture or describe it alot better. ;)
-
ok ill just have to upload it to net hold a sec

http://www.freewebs.com/godfreyandthandi/photos.htm that should be it ;D
-
the little sliding bolt or the IC under it?
-
no the big yellow thing
-
what kind of motion detector is it?
Is it passive (IR or electromagnetic disturbance) or active (Radar / Sonar)?
-
y'know i got no freakin idea..my friends dad is closing a factory and we hit it down so...yea ;D
-
is it one of these things?

yes it looks kinda like that but it doesnt rotate...
-
it appears to have writing on it . . . did you google search it?
with pic chips do u need the stand and the programmer for them??
yeap, you need a programmer to program PIC chips :P
-
so basicly i can just programme the chip then solder it on to the board?
-
You are best off soldering in a socket to your board and then plugging the pic into the socket.
If you have an older computer ~5 years with a serial port, you may be able to make and use a jdm style programmer for around $2. Mine works perfectly and you can program the pic while it is plugged into your circuit. You might want to use a multimeter to see if any of the pins on your serial port register a voltage of ~12 - 13 volts. If so then a jdm style will work.
The yellow thing on the original post is quite fuzzy so its hard to see exactly what it is, a hazarded guess by your description would be either an inductor coil or an aerial if its fitted with a radio module (to communicate wirelessly with the alarm system)

yea i originally thought that when i examined it but i needed an experts advice.
