I saw something pretty cool online , thought I should share it
a contest called for a small servo to be used in the propulsion and no large servos.
So this guy sort of "cheated" his way past this rule :P
He did something that looked like this

hmmmm unless you can get both motors to rotate the same speed, you are going to have them "fight" each other, wasting energy and possibly breaking stuff
although in the short term, definitely a neat idea for increase torque . . .

well its a servo , so im guessing you have built in speed control
but that DC motor doesn't, so if the DC motor goes too fast, the servo speed control will reverse to slow it all down (hence the bad stuff happening)

It must have it, I've built my own servo before, the speed must be proportional to the distance to the target angle or else it will overshoot the position due to the momentum of all the gearing and stuff.

Well it says the motor is a gear head motor. So im guessing that perhaps all the gear ratios balance out so that the motion transfer from both sources equal to put the same speed affect onto that larger gear. Im guessing the goal of that was to maximize torque rather than speed. Why else would they only allow small servos if the challenge was going to be one that could be won with highest torque or something of that nature? :)

why not just desolder the motor and remove the middle gear inside the motor?

if you removed the wires from the small motor in the servo and connected these to a mosfet and then to the large gear head motor, then the gear head motor will stop when the pot gets to the correct position (and there wont be any fighting between the 2 motors).
Thinking about this, I have an ultra microservo whos gearheads trashed the first time i used it (the gears turn past the plastic stopper and this mashed them up), I might use this system with a normal motor, then i dont have a wasted servo

Thats exactly why I NEVER throw ANYTHING out :) Everything can have multiple uses whether its immediately evident or not... I should take some pictures of all the stuff I have laying around... might be over kill but im set for life lol :)

Thats a 100 percent true all the crap that I have lying around becomes so useful eventually. Whenever I throw some of my "junk" out , I always end up needing a makeshift part using that piece I threw out . Though this has started to happen much less, since I've been designing and calculating much more than I ever have before ,saving me the experience of looking for makeshift parts, I make the parts myself ;D

Man I ALWAYS need something off an old part. I constantly get up and walk over to my wall-o-gold with my storage shelves and boxes of stuff to get something. And yeah, I always eventually needed the stuff I threw out which is why I stopped throwing things out :) Ive even resorted to telling pretty much everyone I meet that if they have any electronics at all, regardless of what it is, I will be more than happy to take it off their hands rather than let it land in a landfill somewhere. good stuff comes my way... like this new 18" monitor I got... I thought my old one was good until I got this one hahaha. Now my old primary got downgraded to my new secondary, and this new one is now my primary :)
I love having a dual monitor set up :)

Lol my mom does too :p, whenever I walk in from the garage with more stuff in my hands she looks at me, drops and shakes her head hahaha
