Title: max servo weight
Post by: cooldog on January 16, 2008, 05:38:29 PM
does anyone have any idea how much weight a HS-311 servo can hold without breaking

by breaking do you mean snapping or not being able to move?

well torque will definatley come into the "not moving" category. but snapping would take quite a bit of weight.
have you searched it on google?

Its not weight, but torque that you are looking for.

Check the Hitec website for torque specs.

Torque = distance away from center of rotation * force

force is weight

hs-311 has 49 oz/in of torque . Thats 3.0625 pounds / in

so  49    >  distance from motor shaft * weight of object at that distance away

NOTE:  distance should be measured in inches and weight should be measured in ounces

Ex. at 6" long servo arm can only have an object weighing 8 ounces at the end.

More than that the servo won't turn and the gears will grind.
