I am buiding the 50$ robot and i cant get the pins to stay in the breadboard i am using. I put them in but they keep popping out and hitting me in the face. What should i do? ???
-
you mean the male headers?
I know these are a pain since they're made for protoboards and not for breadboards... I know that Parallax sells longer 3-pin male headers, that are the same length on both sides and which fit perfectly in breadboards. But I'm sure there's got to be a way to find these (even breakaway ones) on digikey/mouser etc.
But then how did you make it in the picture you attached (in the other thread (http://www.societyofrobots.com/robotforum/index.php?topic=2964.0))?
You could try to put them in the opposite direction (long in the breadboard and short in the servo/programmer/other cable), but it probably won't be very stable...
Otherwise, you can use short hookup wires... It's a pain but at least it will work...

umm what i am about to say, i'm not sure about, so dont take this as a fact but i think that if this breadboard you are using is a new one then theese springs(or what ever they are in there that hold the components in) are still too stiff and they will loosen up a bit in the future if u use the breadboard more and more :)

Thanks for the info. Ill keep tryin! ;D

happened the same for me when I tried breadboarding the microcontroller!

I found some male headers that are long on both sides. Thanks for the help! ;D

What I do is force the plastic on the headers to be centered on the metal pins. Yeap, its a tight fit, but the plastic moves if you try. That makes it longer so I can force it into the breadboard.

Can you please specify where you got these? I've been looking but can't find them. Thanks

Check digikey's website, and in the search bar type in "3M", they make ones like that.

i think that guys long gone from sor...
i hate to see people with one post that haven't been on for 2-3 years :-\

I couldn't find them on digikey using 3m as a manufacturer. Some of the ones here

seems have a tale length of 0.210 inches. Will those work?
If anyone could provide a direct link to either digi-key or mouser (preferably mouser) for headers that will work on a breadboard (no popping out) and work with the $50 robot, I would be very appreciative.
edit: I think I found some, and just thought I'd post it on here in case anyone ever did a search for keywords: header, breadboard, long tail

I have those ones too :) (sorry forgot to link those ones, in fact I totally forgot) :http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail&name=S1022E-36-ND (http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail&name=S1022E-36-ND)
Those ones will work perfectly for breadboarding, and you can keep reusing them for all you breadboarded projects!

what I do is simply use pliers to remote a few pins from the plastic part of a standard male heade, and I them directly in the female part.
