Reading through my "intermediate Robot Building" book, it says that MOSFETS require 5 to 10 volts gate voltage above its drain voltage, unless its a logic MOSFET then it requires only 3 volts above. But my question lies in the gate voltage, since the motor will take any voltage applied to it then wouldnt that mean if my gate and motor voltage come from the same regulator, that its impossible to turn fully on?

You should never regulate voltage going to a motor :P
Also, you don't need to regulate the voltage going to the gate, either. Higher voltages lead to higher MOSFET efficiency.
Actually, I tend to use MOSFET driver IC's for high efficiency ;D
