Title: Mammoth Tank Assembled
Post by: frank26080115 on March 01, 2008, 04:09:39 PM
ACTOR robot chassis is done, HS-475HB can drive it no problem, expected to be 5 pounds after everything is installed.
The head sensor mount has is EZ-1 sonar with a 4-10cm Sharp IR rangefinder, plus a wireless camera. It will also feature a burning IR laser, this robot is jokingly supposed to be a "counterterrorism" robot.

The idler is supposed to be spring loaded, but I don't have the right springs right now so I used rubber bands.

This last picture shows a design flaw, there's no room for the battery where it was intended because of the little place where the wire comes out of the servo, my 3D modeling didn't include that, so now I have to mount my battery somewhere else

My friend had a toy tank with a fried board, in exchange for an Freeduino, he gave me it.

I couldn't find the exact tank, BUT
http://www.coolstuffcheap.com/desert-camouflage-mega-missile-launcher-rc-tank.html

It's the same brand, all the parts internally are identical, I know it's identical because I've opened that one up before too.

There is an absolutely KICKASS twin gearbox inside those tanks, two 1" diameter motors in one plastic housing, they even have a clutch. Comes with a 800mAh 9.6V Ni-Cd pack. If you find one cheap, grab it.

I used to make that mistake all the time . . . add a wire knub to your servo CAD, and remember to always think of wiring when you do the CAD.

A while, all the holes are threaded with a tap, and nylon locknuts are a pain to use. I also had to design the tensioner and head mount without CADing first.
