now the final step is programming the ATmega8 in the 50$robot
but the admin said in the tutorial that u r goging to need either the AVR STK Serial Port Dongle Programmer
or the AVR ISP2 Programmer
but the first one i didnt find it and the other is too expensive for me so can i use just a normal serial port and i connect it to the board by a serial port socket instead of the 10 pin header but it will be 9 pins instead of 10 so i dont know if this is possible
here is a pic for what i mean (seial port socket and serial port)

first you'd need to instal a bootloader into the atmega8. then you can program it without the dongle. but until then you'll need to find a programmer
-
try to make a bsd programmer then ulll be able to program it using win avr the schematic for the programmer can be lfound out by google search

do u think i can do this by using ponyprog or not to program the ATmega8
also i want to know if there is any other ideas or not thanks

On instructables.com there are step for creating your own AVR programmer.
Ahh here is the link

thanks pomprocker thats realy good link and easy for a noob to follow ;D
but does that make me use the ponyprog i mean does the ponyprog support parallel ports or only serial ports
i mean that i can ollow the tutorial steps (50$ robot) as it is or there will be any changes
thanks

If you build a separate programmer, you don't need to incorporate it into your $50 robot board (no male headers in the corner, and no blue wires underneath).
ponyprog will send out to any com port you set it to.
