Title: ATmega8 - Internal RC Oscillator
Post by: pomprocker on April 14, 2008, 11:57:05 AM
Can the ATmega8 do 8MHz on its own?
 ???
Or only with an external crystal?

I've done my reading of the datasheet but, I guess I can be dense at times.

yes it has internal 8mhz rc oscillator , but i reccomend a crystal as it is more reliable in varying temperatures

Use crystal if dealing with UART or precise timing. Or if additional (>8 MHz) computational power is required. In other situations RC is the best choice.
