Ok, total newb question,
but what is being used here to program this?
Is this something an AVR could be used for?

motion triggered i guess. compute differences in succesive frames over a limit, aim, in that direction, shoot.
a better way: compute differences in succesive frames, approximate speed, aim in the direction of target + speed + direction, shoot.
i doubt a single avr can do all the processing.

It can't just be motion detection because the camera moves . . . I suspect it does motion detection, then records colors of the object that moved, then locks onto those colors . . .

Yea it doesn't get to 'duped' by the decoys.

I noticed that when the guy was poking his head out, there was a laser pointing at him.

Either in the video, or on youtube the poster says that they put a laser on the barrel for later testing to see where the barrel was pointing at when it shot.
I don't think that the laser had anything to do with tracking, aiming, and shooting it's target.
I also just got back from playing paintball so I sorta feel for the test target.
(I got 23 welts from close shots)

Ouch, that's why I play airsoft. (smaller welts)
