Title: circut program
Post by: goatfish on April 26, 2008, 03:07:06 AM
does anyone knwo of a program that you can put a circut together and then it will show you the electrons flowing though the circut and can show you any errors in the circut, then show you how the pcb should look like?

proteus isis has a good simulator (you won't see electrons, but you have ammeters and voltmeters, a scope, etc) along with its not-so-great pcb layout software, ares.
dxp has protel and its schematic capture software, which also knows kick-ass sim, but i never used it apart from its examples.

Eagle is easy to learn and use. It also has big component library and additional libraries are available in the net. And it is free (!) for small boards and non-commertial use if you care about this. http://www.cadsoft.de/ (http://www.cadsoft.de/)

EAGLE is just for making pcbs,, no simulation

multisim and ultiboard are two prgrams that work together fine.
They are both good programs that do what you want them to...

They're not free though

Spice

Some of the newer simulators can now also do microcontrollers . . . but any interesting simulation needs to include IC's, which means you'd have to model them correctly or your simulation isn't very useful . . .

dude thats awesome

you can select multiple premade circuits , simulate them , AND add your own components to simulate your own custom circuit.

VMlab- perfect freeware tool for AVR develoment. VMlab can be integrated with WinAVR, also it supports digital and analog simulation and  debugging. Really, it is the "lightweight Proteus"

I'll put my vote in for Multisim and Ultiboard. We are using it in class right now and it's great. The library is large, and you can upload other components. The student version goes for about $130. I love how you can hook up a scope, adjust a pot and watch the signal change in real time. The downside is, they do not have AVR's in the library. They have a few MCU's (8051, 8052, PIC16F84, PIC16F84A).

Quote
In present, There are two softs can good simulate for MCU are Proteus 7 (www.labcenter.co.uk) and Tina 7 (www.tina.com).
With Proteus 7, It can simlate 8051, PIC, AVR, AM7, ARM 9, BASIC, Motorola... (I tested AVR ATmega128 with good result).
With, Tina, At first, It can only simulate 8051, PIC, but now, It added AVR MCU, include AVR tiny, mega.
With Multisim10 can simulate for 8051, PIC ( with family PIC  is not much).
Thus, 8051, PIC, AVR are popular MCUs. Hence, Multisim need added AVR MCU is sensible.
Hope that I can simulate AVR MCU in Multisim11
