Title: Sharp GP2D120XJ00F cable?
Post by: Conscripted on May 05, 2008, 05:27:48 PM
Hello again. I received my sharp IR sensor from digikey today. Unfortunately in my wisdom I didn't order a cable to connect it to anything. Anyone have any success making one of these? I know I could buy a cable premade but I would rather not pay shipping again on a 2 dollar part. Any chance they sell this cable at a hobby store?

Thanks

youll never find it at a hobby store.

you might as well order it premade otherwise youll just have to order the connector for the sharp ir end of it.

yeah, or you could just solder straight to the pins on the back of the connector. When you are looking at the front with the connector pointed down, it should go Va, GND, VCC.

So it should go like this? If so I'll just solder directly to the pins. Maybe with half a servo extension cable.

Thanks

What I did, is I bent the pins of the GP2D slightly, and then I fit the pins
into individual Female headers.

That way, I could then just plug the GP2D into the usual 0.1" Male headers.

Depending on the physical size of the Female pins that you use,
you may have to trim the white guard on the GP2D.

It's really sad they don't always sell these with the wiring. You think, 'wow its cheaper at this site!' but in reality its 'cause they skimped on the wires . . . several other members here fell for it too - you aren't the first!

Strange... cant you just order with the connectors(not the cables)? When I buy those sensors they come with the connectors and datasheet.

I ordered mine from digikey. No cable no data sheet.  :( I'll solder on half of a servo extension cable once I get to that point in my project. I should be able to get it to look ok.

I always buy mine from Acroname.
