Hey everyone,
I'm looking at organising a Sumo robot contest sometime later this year for people in Adelaide, Australia. As I have never actually participated in one of these contests was wondering if anyone can share their experiences in organising/ competing.
I know all of the rules but I was wondering if anyone has any advice on how to organise this event that would be awesome. What I should do/ not do etc.
Thanks guys,

get sponsors for prizes
post up ads for the competition
why are you doing this competition ? Just for fun or some other motive?

I've got a couple of contacts which should hopefully be able to get some money/products up for sponsership, I just need to go confirm that.
I'm trying to get more people in Adelaide interested in robotics, there is a lot more stuff happening at high school level now but that is mostly just lego mindstorm and pre made kits. I want to try and get all of these people started in making their own robots and competing so the market for robotics and electonics in Australia is increased. Ideally anyway! Realistically I just want to get a group of people together who all like to build robots!

why limit it to only sumo robots?
have multiple challenges - best looking robot, best engineered, most cost efficient design , etc.

I want to limit it to sumo bots for ease mainly ;) for my first robot contest I don't want to make it too hard to organise!!
Having more prizes however is a very good idea, people are motivated by winning prizes!
