So, I was looking around the web today to try to find good deals for the $50 robot and I came across this good deal. It is a 6V 2300 mAH rechargeable NiMH battery pack for only $11.99. I couldn't decide between this forum or the misc. forum, so I just decided to put this here. Hope I'm right!

While I'm really new at this, I'm 99 percent sure you can use that battery. You just have to make sure that it can provide adequate current, which for the 50 dollar robot it definitely will.

I have that battery and i love it . I got two of them from them and it works perfectly
It will work with the 50 dollar robot .
Be sure to post pics of ur bot when you finish it

Thanks for the replies, everyone! If I do get this battery pack (which I probably will), would I use this charger with it?

It says the charger has a Mini Female Tamiya Connector, but I have no idea what that means. It does, however, look like it'll fit into the battery's connector.

It doesn't say on the battery pack information what sort of head it has, so I'm just guessing, lol.

the battery has a MOLEX connector which is not a tamiya connector

make sure you match up connectors - same size and male to female
also what I did was cut the molex connector and solder on a male mini tamiya connector to it
buy some other mini connectors to attach the batteries to your circuits, etc.

If I buy the battery pack, this charger, and this connector, could it work? I would cut off the end of the battery pack wires and solder on the connector. That way, I could easily plug it in and out of the charger. Would this work or not? Thanks!

yes that connector would work
I see that adapter is rated at 400ma, that means that your 2300 mah will take quite a while to fully charge! I would suggest one of all-battery.com's smart chargers, they are worth the investment.

OK, thanks! Yeah, it will take a while, but at least it still works!
Also, I could just charge it while I'm sleeping (doesn't it take like 6 hours to charge?). I'd rather save some money so I could go out and buy some other cool electronic stuff! :P

yea it'll take like 6 hours, just make sure not to overcharge the battery b/c NiMH batteries get really hot .
A cool thing which I am not 100% is true: NiCd batteries get colder as they charge.

yeh nimh are good, like the ones in mobile phones... They have no real memory loss and charge quick, good power too(current). Might need more than 6V tho. Thats enough just to run your microcontroller - u want a seperate supply for motors etc. if u want some power.
Nihm batteries certainly dont get cooler as they charge... U are putting electrical energy into em and hence - Heat.
Yeh get a Smart charger as was previously mentioned.. An all in one Universal type one... cost u a bit but very handy to have lying around.. Most of them know when its charged and stop which is what u want with Nimh. Nicad for example like top be fully discharged before u charge again and the Smart charger has a function for de-charging.. But I would stay clear of Nicad.
Also, just elaborating on another post - the charger is 400mA, 2300 mAh (milliAmpHours) batteries. So for every hour they will charge 400mA. Hence it will take 6hours to get 2400mAh

Nope 6 volts is fine I know I can run atleast 2 servos and a microcontroller on 6 volts.

Are you guys sure NiCad's get cold during a charge? Its been a long time since I've used them (in fact, I'm selling all the ones I have), but I can't seem to find a reference online to verify . . .
