Hi All/Admin,
I am fairly new at this and i am doing quite well with construction etc...however, i am from africa and as such have a few problems getting and ATMega8. I have sourced a EEPROM called PIC16F84A, and was wondering if this is in any way compatable with the circut design of the ATMega8 you have shown in the 50$.
I have everything about the PIC chip from this link http://ww1.microchip.com/downloads/en/devicedoc/35007b.pdf
It has all the pin outs. I might be stupid and you are using different naming conventions to the PIC guys? I could be that dum - yes i could. LOL.
Could you let me know if it is possible to re-map the pinouts - and if so, what would i map them too? Pissibly a scribble on a piece of paper showing the changes? Or would i need to completly re-think this.
From reading what EEPROMs are about on your site, they all do the same thing - hold code or and instruction set.
Hopeing to be helped and corrected ASAP - i need me 1 of those cool little gizmo's!
Thanks a lot,
Chilli

Unfortunately the 16F84a doesnt have any analog/digital converter pins so you wont be able to read the value of the photoresistors

Any suggested alternatives? I am limited to PIC i am afraid, but i believe i can get a few different models.

The PIC16F628
And when you become more advanced you can use 18F series, they are better.
Don't worry, PICs are just as good as AVRs. Using PICs is no limitation.

thanks very much!

PIC16F628 doesn't have any adc pin...
try PIC16F688.
If you want something bigger try PIC16F877 or PIC18F4430.

my favorite PIC is the PIC16F616
check it out , its awesome !
it has like 8 ADC ports and its only a 14 pin device. Also the layout of it is very easy , like the top two pins are Vdd and Vss

My fave low end PIC at the minute is the 18F4550. Massive amount of features + USB ready!

Thanks guys i am looking into all the suggestions to see availability.

All my old robots used the 16F877, and I posted code for each that you can use:
