First of all i would like to thank this site for all these infos that i have learnt.
So what i want to ask is that i can use the infrared emitter detector as a sensor for avoiding obstacles
would that be accurate and good sensor
also i found this schematic in this site and my question is do i have to connect the Vout to a transistor like the one in the 40$ robot tutorial or i can just connect it directly to the L293D
thanks
sorry for my noob questions but really i like this field and would like to master it :D

I'm not sure if you can use that with the $40 robot.

i didnt mean that i going to build the 40$ robot as i already did :D
my question is in any other circuit when i connect this sensor do i have to add the transistor then connect it to the L293D or i can connect it directly to the IC
thanks

The transistor in the circuit is the photodetector. Without it your circuit won't actually respond in any way to IR.
