Title: The Secrets of NiMh
Post by: Asellith on July 21, 2008, 10:10:18 AM
Ok I had to share this. I was pricing AA NiMh batteries and trying to see if buying a batter pack and charger was cheaper then buying standard AA batteries which I already have a charger for and a battery enclosure. So I did a search and didn't get only batteries.

I'm not sure if this was intentional but the I read the book The Secrets of Nimh as a child and watched the animated movie. Interesting how a group of mice with advanced scientific knowledge would name them selves after a battery chemistry :) Course in reality the two are probably unrelated. Just found that funny and thought I would share it.

I saw the title on hulu and immediately clicked on it to see what I thought was a science show that was going to teach me about NiMH technology.....

I was not amused  >:(

How is it?

The real secret of NiMH is that the patent was bought by Texaco-Chevron and they have a clause for anyone intending to use that technology.  You cannot use it to power an automobile with it.  Talk about greed.  The patent expires in 2015, so maybe there is hope after that.

By 2015 we will have batteries that are better and safer then lithium anyway. So who need NiMh

I hope so.  And I hope whatever technology it is, Chevron doesn't get a hold of it. Chevron didn't invent NiMH (fat b'tards are too lazy), they bought the rights to the patent.

Well they are finally making the batteries available for sale in the USA for GM cars apparently.
I guess they realized that they might as well make money from their patents now before its to late.

Anyone know a GM site I can buy replacements for these batteries? :P
