I need a web host and I was wondering which hosts you guys would recommend.

I need recommendations for both paid web hosts and free web hosts

This is the usual case: It depends on what you need it to do. But I recomend www.thefreecountry.com. They have a reallygood site with several pages on free, budget, and commercial web hosts, separated by the features. P.S. This site is great for a lot of other things too, especially if you do computer programming.

well, what do you need?
simple file hosting, php & asp, database support, cpanel, full ssh access?

@izua I need simple file hosting with FTP and with no forced ads and banners

btw  this website would basically be an organized archive of all the things I write on my blog .

sounds like Google Pages will do everything you need.

must get round to finishing those pages....

whats your predicted traffic? large files? mysql/php?

lunarpages.com is good on the condition you don't ever plan to exceed ~2000 pageviews/day and you have nothing processor intensive. Otherwise, they will be sure to screw you over like they did to me last xmas while I was on vacation rant rant rant :-X
