Title: Car voltmeter & stabiliser

This is not exactly robotics related, but I noticed many bright electronists here (damn chatroom still not up).

Someone asked me to do a car voltmeter for him, to check the main battery's voltage. It should be powered by the same voltage it has to measure. I know cars have nasty spikes, especially when starting, but I'm not sure how to design a suitable stabiliser. Any hints?

Just put a bunch of capacitors around power and ground. The capacitor F depends on the noise frequency you wish to stabelize. Google can help you from there ;D


ps - Why not buy a voltage meter instead?

Well, I don't know about the frequency, i guess bandlimited white noise :P that's why i mentioned that it's for a car.
I was assuming something with a zenner diode. or..
