i was pluging in the battery and it smoke and desroyed the system. I think it was because i used lead free solder. so now i am use 40/60 lead roisin core solder,is this the right kind of solder?
-
Nope, it's not your solder... ;D
Pretty much sure about it ;D

Leaded solder lets the smoke out just as well as lead-free solder. :)
Seriously, though. We've all let the magic smoke out many, many times. Do an autopsy to find out where you made your mistake and learn from it. Eventually the magic smoke will stay where its supposed to.

Well, it could be your solder.... if you shorted your circuit along the way and didn't realize it... It happend to me a few times... I let a solder joint glob instead of a nice and neat junction, before I knew it I too was getting visited by the magic smoke genie... Ever so important to have the patience to double check your work... and make sure all goes where it suppost to... Because it sure sucks to see the caps turn like popcorn and the whole project crapping before one's eyes... :'(
..X..

it was because the lead free solder clumps up compared to rosin core. I looked at the MCU and found that since the solder clumped up the power crossed before it reached the regulator. does any body have a experince like this? ???

lead free solder is crap :D
Always check your circuit prior to turning it on. The good news is that I don't think you killed your whole circuit. Most of the parts should still be good if it shorted before entering the system

Too bad you didn't listen to us...

lead free solder is crap
The header pins on my Axon use lead-less solder. ;D

its crap to the average robot hobbyist. Its a real pain to solder .

I just soldered the ft232RL with lead free solder. Does that mean I have wicked awesome soldering skills? 8)

yep I guess so . Soldering the FT232R with ANY type of solder means you have some skills

If you really want to prove your skillz, try soldering the CP2102 with lead-less solder - it has 32 pads underneath the chip (no pins).
For those who have the Axon, its that tiny black square chip on the bottom right.
When I do lead-less solder, I pump the iron heat up to max and use flux before I solder.
