I've been thinking about building an RC camera-mobile and have a question
-tripod design with 2 drive wheels on (cont. rotation) servos and a castor
-pan/tilt camera assembly (2 unmodified servos)
Q: when I let go of the joy on the RC controller, will unmodified servos return to zero or just stop where they are?
Q2: If they return to zero when I let go, would I use the trim controls on the RC controller to keep them in a certain place? (Pan/tilt)
Q3: Does degree of joy manipulation affect speed of rotation in modified servos? IE- press it farther, it moves faster?
thnx bunches in advance for the help guys :S

What happens when you let go of the stick is a function of your radio. If you have a self-centering stick, then it will return the servos to center +/- the trim settings. If you have a stick that stays put, then the servos will stay put also. You can tell easily what it will do by moving the stick and then letting go to see if it springs back or not.
For example, my airplane radios have centering horizontally and vertically on the right stick and horizontally only on the left stick, so the left stick retains its position in the vertical direction.

ah thnx. I dont know yet what it will do, I havnt decided which one to buy, this will be my first RC project. I'm leaning towards this one

Avoid buying RC radios from robotic stores, things tend to be a little overpriced. If you want a simple radio to start out with I would look at the Spektrum DX5. It has the new 2.4ghz technology and is only around $100 with receiver. When you are ready to upgrade you can buy the more advanced radios and still use the receiver you bought originally.
Or if you want a good enough radio with enough features, try the Futaba 6EXH or 6EXP radios. Another good option for a good price is the JR 6102.
Hitec radios aren't very popular and you will get little support from Hitec. Hitec makes good servos, but their radios just haven't taken off. Futaba, JR, and Spektrum are the big names that you should buy from.
