I want to have three digit number selection - which means three thumbwheel potentiometers with numbers on them.Microcontroller does an A2D on the pot and translates that analog reading into what position the thumbwheel pot is turned to ( aka which number )

Hi,
Why not just use Binary Thumbwheel Switches?

Plain old switches is not what I had in mind - didn't you ever heard of thumbwheel switches?
3 of them is all it takes (and in your case, go for BCD coded output rather than raw binary)
Well, a picture paints a thousand words, or in this case combinations, so here goes...

Oh I see now what you were referring to.
A thumbwheel pot would be easier to use and interface , but I guess if I cant find a thumbwheel pot I'll use a thumbwheel switch, Thanks for bringing it up.
Anyone know if thumbwheel pots even exist?

I did quite a bit of searching for you. I found out at digikey if you search "pot thumbwheel" P4C1502 through P4D2503 all have numbers on them!

Thanks but I wanted ones that can be read from the top and not from the side , pictures of which can be found in Soeren's post. They should look exactly like the ones in Soeren's post except be pots and not switches.
