Title: SoR Junk Box
Post by: pomprocker on December 08, 2008, 05:50:52 PM
There are a few other robotic websites putting together these migratory junk boxes. I think that would be a great idea for this website.

I would like to develop a modularized code library for sensors for the $50 robot, but I don't want to buy all the different sensors...

I have the same problem actually.

Just an FYI, sensors.c for my Axon is 100% compatible with the $50 Robot. Just add the file, then use these commands:

(on rare occasions you might have to redefine some pins or something for your specific sensor)

I think we should combine our efforts with the other junk boxes, not double them. pomprocker, have you considered getting the robots.net box? My major concern for the SoR junk box is beginners with not much money taking all the good stuff out and only putting junk (the bad type) back in. The cost of shipping the box would also equal the cost of many of the parts in it (better to just buy new, no?). When I moved to Thailand I trashed and gave away most of my 'junk', so I wouldn't be able to contribute.

Although these boxes seem like a good idea in theory, in practice they are'nt.
UNLESS, you keep it to specific states i.e. no overseas shipping (cutting out people on this site), you cut out new guys (hate the term newbie) as admin stated, etc. etc.
These boxes have been thought about on other sites I'm a member of and in most cases the idea was thrown out as it would end up being more problems than its worth, you'd end up paying shipping for a box o crap no-one wants and alienating members.
Just my tuppence worth
