Title: Creating your own IR sensor versus using Sharp GP2Y0A02YK0F

So, I think the accuracy may be lower on the home made one, and good distance will be a problem.

The thing is that me and some pals have a project with a pretty high speed robot, so long and accurate distance sensoring is necassary. But we also need quite alot of sensors (6 IR sensors). Now should we make 6 our self or should we buy the sensors, at maybe 120-130 USD total?

Those ir emitter detectors dont really work like the sharp rangefinders. The rangefinders detect the incoming angle of reflected light and calculate the distance depending upon that angle. The emitter/detector in the tutorial doesnt do this, is much much shorter distance and the output changes depending on object color, coeffieient etc....

Maybe just buy 1 rangefinder for distance measurement and make the other 4 yourself for proximity detection

remember that you can reuse the Sharp IR sensors on later robots and projects as well
