A lot of these electronics distributors have API's that octopart can pull from. I doubt robotics retailers have APIs

If you write it for them, they'll probably use it. Once they see the sales increase, they'll update it themselves I think.

You don't need the site to have a specialized data API, you just need it to have well notated webpages. I wrote a perl script a while back for interpreting wiki pages on periodic elements. It's pretty much like a selective web browser that only retrieves the info between the tags I want. Most webpages have div names, table names, or other labels that you can kinda jack into a haywired protocol. I did the same thing when I wrote my IRC bot, I couldn't find good documentation on quakenets ident protocols so I had to kinda hack it together with the appropriate replies to their opcodes (Or whatever they are call, I'm sell taught so I don't always have the correct terminology).

To bad I found out there was a MediaWiki API for the Wiki business a while later xD

i was planning to make an online robotics part buissness (yes i know im only 12), and still might; its being put into consideration and ill tell you guys if i ever do =D

I'll pass that over to one of my friends and see if he wants to do it. Get back to you guys on that.
