I have to drive a 1.5 A stepper motor off of a 4 AA cell power source. (4.8V because I'm using NiMH batteries)
What motor driver should I use? I don't think the L298 would work because it would require a higher supply voltage. So what does everyone else suggest? I will be using an ooPIC to drive the motor, and was initially planning on using an L297 to run the motor driver.

You need a stepper motor driver. For example:

(note, I didn't verify it can handle your required current)

I think is problem is that the stepper driver that you linked to requires 7-20 or 30 volts to operate. He's running on 4.8.
Can he just amplify the voltage for that part of the circuit at a cost of amps?
