Title: avr programmer diy

i am reffering to the cheaper version. would this tutorial suffice?  http://www.instructables.com/id/Ghetto-Programming:-Getting-started-with-AVR-micro/?ALLSTEPS (http://www.instructables.com/id/Ghetto-Programming:-Getting-started-with-AVR-micro/?ALLSTEPS) no where in australia sells any good robotic parts including programmers. from sparkfun this came to about $34.00ish shipped :( and these parts came to about $10. do you guys reckon this would work?

That would work as long as you have a parallel port.

Here is a simple serial port one that needs some resistors and diodes:

wait! theres a difference beween parallel and serial?
