Hey People,
You probebly get this alot, but searching right now is a bit difficult as i am not sure what exactly to search for...
I am trying my hand @ robotics, i have a programming background of close to 10 years and i now want to apply it to something that makes sense.
I did some research and came to the conclusion the the Programmer i use is cinda important.
I want to build my first robot, but i want to make sure the programmer i use (purchase) is robust so i can re-use it when i have the art semi perfected.
Can someone please guide me towards a decent programmer, or at least what i should be looking for?

argh, let me rather do some more reading.
dont want to waste your time as a newby, anyways i am going to do more research, i need to conceptualize robotics, and familierize myself with the terms used and the components functionality.
I am currently using http://www.societyofrobots.com (http://www.societyofrobots.com) as my starting point, good site.
if anyone know of more sites or documents that can give great overviews please let me know.
THANX

Hi,
The two best programmers (wide following, cheap and useable for many devices):
http://www.lancos.com/prog.html (http://www.lancos.com/prog.html) and http://www.ic-prog.com/ (http://www.ic-prog.com/)
Seeing you have a bit of experience with programming, you should read up on the other two disciplines needed in robotics; mechanics and electronics.
You're in for a lot of fun (and a lot of grey hairs :D).

thanx for the reply, hehe, yeah, i can see the hair falling out already, i am busy disassembling my house for any usefull part... ;D

http://galileon.co.uk/pmwiki/pmwiki.php?n=Main.AVRDevelopment (http://galileon.co.uk/pmwiki/pmwiki.php?n=Main.AVRDevelopment)
If you follow the link from there, it leads you to a Parallel Port Programmer using 4 wires, 2 resistors and a D25 connector. Dirt cheap.
