Title: Robotic Hamster Wheel (Do not use on a hamster)
Post by: offy on March 30, 2009, 02:53:58 PM
I got bored so I built this little robotic hamster wheel, so when the hamster goes on the wheel, it has to run, there are some problems and this is not good to use with a hamster.

Specs:
MCU = Roboduino
IR Range Finder
HS-311 Servo
6V battery pack

I didn't try it on a hamster and never will. I just got bored today, and I had some old hamster stuff laying around so I built this.

Also if I were to test it on a hamster, I would drop the speed down, add a delay, and make it start slow and go up in speed.

why not reverse the process and get the hamster turn the wheel, connected to a gear/motor set to charge batteries for you?

My hamster doesn't run, all it does is sit on the wheel, so that doesn't work.

or every mile ran earns a treat  ;D
that could work with some kind of wheel encoder and a servo with a cup attached that can only hold one treat!

hah, i can imagine you forcing a cat into the wheel then turning it on...
but yes, this could work... but you would need new everything... even designs...
you would have to think about... "what happens if my cat suddenly stops, will it break the plastic"?
also "is my cat so fat it will break the servo gears"?

I could make this for a cat. I just don't know a wheel big enough for my cat, or something strong enough to hold him. He is like 20 pounds.
