Robokid, do you have any experience with microcontrollers or programing of any kind? What sort of microcontroller do you plan on using? What kind of budget do you have? What sort of range do you want? Are you starting from scratch or are you hacking an already made RC car?

Easy was is use Vista Speech. See butler robot here

Although, I'm not meant to do this....
Should I begin crying now or later on....
First of all.... Speech reckon with a microcontroller ( DSP micro for sure ) or PC...
Second is hell easy, just need to fine tune a program on PC....
First.... ooohhh my.... You need to know... math, dsp programming, programming, algos, math again....
and well..... if it's not for dedication and time.... (some years....) forget it...
The car thing is another problem... Cars, suffer from 1.5 degree of freedom in movement...
This is called Ackerman steering....
You can't move a car parallel to axon of the wheels headings (when not steering)
You have to "park" the car to do so... which is quite complex thingy.....
Differential drive is by far easier....
By this time more complex problems have arouse which I'm not gonna elaborate before you tell us
your level of experience...

If I was up for a ready solution, then I would definately use a PC....
No word... Such IC require a hell of trouble shooting.... and still not so good as a PC...

robokid, all I can say is read every tutorial you see on http://www.societyofrobots.com (http://www.societyofrobots.com) that looks relevant. Next, read airman00's butler robot tutorial for speech recognition.
