Post by: hendrachubby on June 18, 2009, 03:36:46 AM
Can I use 9V battery ?

*sigh* yes... but bear in mind... if using servos they will receive 9V which is bad for most servos.

i'm not using servos...i just use the regulated pin... thx for the info

ahh ok, then you will be fine, but it is a bit of a waste and the regulator *may* get hot.

If you have something smaller it would be better as there is a 5V regulator on it which will convert 9V -> 5V, the 4V difference is given off as heat which is bad. If you do run off a 9V battery find a heat sink for the regulator and it hopefully won't be too bad.

anyone have tried ? how much heat it will produced ?

power = voltage drop * current

power = (9V - 5V) * 0.5A (what is your current draw?)

power = 2W of heat

then look at the voltage regulator datasheet to match that with temperature

okay i already tried it, with the heatsink, and it works fine...even there the regulator a bit warm
