Ok so basically, It would be awsome if one could build a robot controlled by the mind. I got an idea how to do it, but I dont want to do the reasearch into doing a brain wave sensor thing. Theres one called emotive EPOC which I dont think is being sold on the market yet. So does anyone know of a way, or a device that is able to measure brain waves that can be hooked to the computer. Hopefully this device is under $300 or can be built at home. I know its a far-fetched idea, but how cool !?

i think that this is still not exactly ready to control a robot give it a couple years... I would try using voice recognition... I'm not sure how much a brain wave thing will cost but i would guesss the price would be very expensive and for development would probably require a whole team of EEs and programmers and so forth so on...

I actually disagree. The emotive EPOC is going to be sold at $299. It will used for gaming. I just need the system that can measure brain waves. With that info, it wont be to hard to understand if the person using it, for example, wants the robot to turn. Like perhaps the person would need to twist their hips to turn the robot. The brain would give off very strong waves because it is making muscles move etc.

ok so its selling for $299 any feed back of how good it works? Also if your brain is giving off strong waves then weak waves etc. that kind of limits the possibilities am i right... unless certain things cause the same amount of brain waves in everybody which im not sure about...

Or you could use a controller and move your thumbs but thats way to hard... ::)

Brain Computer Interfaces (BCI) are a topic that I've always been really interested in. There have been many projects of this over the years that I have seen that have impressed me with it. My university actually did a robot controlled with a EEG and EOG system.See Here (http://www.mecheng.adelaide.edu.au/robotics/robotics_projects.php?wpage_id=44&title=28&browsebytitle=1). Also on one of my favourite engineering TV shows 'Prototype This' they made a car which would stop moving when it detected the user was getting angry to show how the system could be used to stop road rage. There is also a Star Wars 'Force Trainer' which has an EEG headset which you can control the motion of a floating ball.
This is an expensive area to get into as you can start hitting blocks with the sensitivity of the equipment you are using and have to upgrade to get better programs, however this is one of the coolest areas of robotics!

Thanks for the reply. Actually it turns out my uncle built one for doctors to carry around in their pockets! So if i cant find a device etc i could make one with him. The only real problem is that its so messy with the gel and everything. But if one could do it dry..... :D

Thats awesome, you should definitely pick his brain on this. He would probably know of a cheaper products you could buy. If you do find any good/moderately priced hardware post it back onto the forums!
I think that to get accurate results you will probably need to go the gel method, otherwise you won't be getting enough data. I'm not really sure about this though..
